WING CHUN KUEN KUNG FU MARTIAL ARTS UK WCDKA™ - MYTHS

Myth: One must be super fit to practice Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art .

Myth: Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art and Meditation comes more easily to individual of Eastern extraction.

Myth: Teacher of Eastern extraction are better at Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art and other Martial Arts in general.

Myth: Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art can be learned in a very short period of time.

Myth: All Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art practitioners are 'ultimate' fighters.

Myth: It is said that Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial arts is an amalgamation of different styles put together to produce the ultimate fighting machine.

Truth: In hand-to-hand combat, which is only ONE of the many reasons why practitioners undertake to study: Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art is very much its own style. In fact, it is unique in its own scientific approach and is particularly geared towards the brutal realities of "street attacks". In the right hands Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art remains highly effective and will always be proportionally as efficient as the person behind it. (Or as inefficient for that matter)! This therefore means that the system is only as limited as the person using it. Conversely, undiluted Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art has the potential to be lethal and therefore those who study to a very high level, with it they must also carry the responsibility of not using it indiscriminately and strictly ONLY for self-preservation.

Myth: Meditation is only for those people who are "spiritually inclined".

Myth: If an organisation claims to be representing a Chinese Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art (so called master) it will automatically guarantee me an effective learning environment.

Myth: Belonging to a large organisation ensures that I will learn undiluted Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art and the quality of learning is superior.

Truth: 'American style' fast food establishments will churn out a branch manager within weeks. These organisatios are oversize, their service is fast but no skilled staff are required only average technicians. Their food is standardised, cheap and unhealthy.

Naturally, not everyone will settle for cheap, fast and unhealthy food.

Myth: By traveling to China and learning with the masters (self-proclaimed or not) will enable me to return to the West with secret techniques.

Myth: Teachers who call themselves 'masters' signifies that they have achieved a higher level of skills than teachers who modestly refer themselves as Si-fus.

Truth: There is no such thing as a 'master' in Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art. Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art can be studied and perfected throughout one's life. Consequently, the term 'master' in Wing Chun Kuen would negatively purport that the individual has reached a stand still (plateau) and his ability for further learning might have been compromised. To state that a person has learned all there is to learn in a combat system and achieved total mastery is indeed extremely dangerous and downright incautious. However, if the term 'master' is used to express someone's proficiency towards a particular activity it may be acceptable.

The Chinese philosopher and founder of Taoism La'o Tzu who once said: "Abide at the centre of your being for the more your leave it, the less you learn".

Myth: The overall standard of Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art is higher in Hong Kong, China than any other country in the world.

Truth: Football/soccer was contrived in England, UK. Sadly, the standard of international football in England has never quiet lived up to expectations. By the same token although there exist some excellent practitioners in Hong Kong, China. There also exist some mediocre ones just like the rest of the world or any other specialisation. We can't all be good at all things irrespective of whom we are. The individual wanting to learn Wing Chun Kuen or any other subject, should strive to improve themselves to the best of their ability. Maintaining an open mind is a fundamental part of learning. Do NOT be bantered by stereotypical preconceived ideals!
