WING CHUN KUEN KUNG FU MARTIAL ARTS UK WCDKA - ASSESSMENT |
| |
Assessment at the WCDKA is considered an integral part of the learning process and as a result, knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills are assessed on a continual basis throughout the learning and by the end of each level. |
| |
The assessment methods encourage students to adopt deep learning approaches. Assessment is used to ascertain levels of learning achieved by students so as to allow progression on their learning as well as providing feedback both to students and association. |
| |
Essentially, assessment is the process of identifying the nature and quality of the students' learning and the effectiveness of the teaching being imparted |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
The student must be punctual, trains regularly, is correctly dressed, has a good standard of personal hygiene, looks alert and interested, listens and earns the respect of his teacher and fellow students without idolising them, but by working hard. Understands courtesy and righteousness, manifests appropriate behaviour in and out of the learning environment. Uses his skills as a last resort for self-preservation only. |
| |
|
| |
We want our students to explore the 'why' and 'why not' and 'so what' of the facts. We also want them to apply their knowledge and understanding by solving new problems which depends on the grasp of the underlying principles that they have learnt. We want them to analyse, synthesise and evaluate information by weighing up strengths and limitations. |
| |
|
| |
For every level of skill performance students must display the following: Accuracy, co-ordination, speed and economy as well as technical proficiency, imagination, creativity and style. |
| |
At the WCDKA we provide feedback within an ongoing assessment process - 'Continuous assessment' |
| |
At the end of the learning programme - 'Summative Assessment'. Our assessment is principally intended to shape students' learning by feeding back into the learning process and improve standards progressively - 'Formative Assessment'. |
| |
Recognition of performance & achievement |
| |
For every level of technical competence, students will be formally recognised or certified, see learning programme. |
| |
|
| |
WCDKA currently administer two 'formative' assessments per year, every six months: |
| |
First week of April and First week of September concurrently. Assessment remains mandatory. |
| |
Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu martial art system has over the generations been passed through words of mouth; and still is to a certain extend both in China and other parts of the world. This way of imparting knowledge is not necessarily inferior due to the relatively logical progressive nature of the Wing Chun Kung Fu martial art style. However, the difficulty lies within the person who is trying to absorb the knowledge and the individual skill of whom is imparting that same knowledge. Scholars of diverse thoughts have had perennial arguments regarding which method of teaching/learning is the most effective. |
| |
The truth of course remains that the most efficacious method of teaching/learning is the one most suited to the individual learner. WCDKA has always adopted a proactive and individual approach to teaching/learning. Our methodologies remain highly flexible: |
| |
Conventionally, martial arts in the West have always been too systematic in their approaches with too frequently imposed and commercially oriented examinations (grading). Which unfortunately easily frustrate a high percentage of practitioners. Understandably so, for the grading process overwhelms the learning process. |
| |
WCDKA has in place an expertly composed syllabus based on years of experience, thousands of successfully delivered main stream lessons, private tuition and workshops. Ultimately, producing highly skilled individuals at all levels. |
| |
At our private group classes WCDKA administer six levels of study which are additionally supported by specialist workshops throughout the year. These learning stages consist of the core techniques of Wing Chun Kuen. Students are expected to maintain a good record of attendance and can reach a fundamental proficient level of Wing Chun Kuen in 3 1/2 years. Considering that the average true learning time is approximately 3 hours per week. |
| |
Individuals wishing to progress to advanced level (teacher level) may do so through private one-to-one study. |
